Delta Air Lines, Inc. Environmental Specialist in Los Angeles, California

Summary: The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day management of environmental issues at LAX, as delegated by station management, which will include the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all environmental regulations and permit conditions are followed.

  • Manage all environmental permits and registrations, including the preparation of required environmental reports submitted to regulatory authorities. This will include the oversight of the station's SPCC, SWPPP, Asbestos O&M, and Hazardous Materials Business Plans, storage tank management, industrial wastewater permit monitoring and reporting, on-call spill response and reporting, air quality program permit and registration requirements, and solid and hazardous waste management.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of LAX's Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) to monitor compliance tasks and performance.

  • Meet periodically (e.g., monthly) with station management to discuss environmental issues of concern and obtain direction and concurrence regarding actions to be taken.

  • Provide an on-site point of contact to coordinate and execute environmental programs and to act as a liaison to airport environmental personnel, TechOps environmental staff and Corporate Environment.

  • Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

The Environmental Specialist position at LAX requires the following experience and knowledge base:

  • A strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs is necessary. Experience with environmental requirements in California as applied to the aviation industry is strongly preferred.

  • Good teamwork skills and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of station management are required.

  • Must be self-motivated and possess strong written and oral communication skills, good problem solving and critical thinking abilities, and excellent Microsoft application skills.

  • Must work well under pressure, be detail oriented, meet deadlines and exhibit excellent organizational skills.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or at least 3 years of relevant work experience, is required.
