Delta Air Lines, Inc. Environmental Specialist in Los Angeles, California
Summary: The Environmental Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day management of environmental issues at LAX, as delegated by station management, which will include the following responsibilities:
Ensure that all environmental regulations and permit conditions are followed.
Manage all environmental permits and registrations, including the preparation of required environmental reports submitted to regulatory authorities. This will include the oversight of the station's SPCC, SWPPP, Asbestos O&M, and Hazardous Materials Business Plans, storage tank management, industrial wastewater permit monitoring and reporting, on-call spill response and reporting, air quality program permit and registration requirements, and solid and hazardous waste management.
Assist in the development, implementation, and oversight of LAX's Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) to monitor compliance tasks and performance.
Meet periodically (e.g., monthly) with station management to discuss environmental issues of concern and obtain direction and concurrence regarding actions to be taken.
Provide an on-site point of contact to coordinate and execute environmental programs and to act as a liaison to airport environmental personnel, TechOps environmental staff and Corporate Environment.
Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
The Environmental Specialist position at LAX requires the following experience and knowledge base:
A strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance programs is necessary. Experience with environmental requirements in California as applied to the aviation industry is strongly preferred.
Good teamwork skills and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of station management are required.
Must be self-motivated and possess strong written and oral communication skills, good problem solving and critical thinking abilities, and excellent Microsoft application skills.
Must work well under pressure, be detail oriented, meet deadlines and exhibit excellent organizational skills.
A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or at least 3 years of relevant work experience, is required.
