The Sr. Systems Engineer will possess a passion for technology and ensure 24x7 highly available and reliable operations systems for Delta. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated professional who can work in a fast-paced fluid environment and provide business facing application support, monitoring, analytics, and SLA management.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE
Execute on the Incident, Change Management, Problem Management processes
Responsible for the implementation, and support of various platforms (hardware, operating systems, software, and systems tools)
Provide consultation and direct technical support in life cycle planning, problem management, integration, and systems programming
Experience and exposure to VMWare VDI implementations a huge plus
Implement releases, upgrades, and/or changes into the environment
Ensure platform performance and availability meet enterprise objectives through monitoring, timely service restoration, and tuning
Duties may include capacity planning, workload modeling, system maintenance/administration, and diagnostics
Strong Troubleshooting ability required
Collaborative team player - Works well with other teams under pressure
Leads calls or contributes in a logical fashion
Creating and leveraging Automation for deployments and monitoring
Creativity and innovation focused
Experience with Dynatrace APM and synthetic monitoring
Focus on resolving issues before they become incidents
Install, customize, maintain, test, and troubleshoot operating systems and other server systems software
Identify and articulate severity of impacts using provided monitoring tools and escalate as needed
Able to understand architecture and design of applications and identify or narrow focus for an incident based on symptoms
Perform root cause analysis to quickly recover from service interruptions, and to prevent recurring problems
Monitor, manage, and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved
Identify gaps in monitoring or documentation and reaches out to appropriate teams to fill those gaps
Implement changes to platforms with minimal impact to the business by following enterprise standards and procedures
Design and document enterprise standards and procedures
Deploying & Testing OS upgrades, security patches, Software packages, application configurations
Deployments and restarts of critical production systems
Monitoring, escalation and troubleshooting of high severity impacts as well as lower level issues that may become incidents
Triaging to identify the source of impacts during incidents
Act as intermediary for portfolio teams and Enterprise Monitoring to ensure maximum monitoring visibility and effectiveness
Follow-up with appropriate teams on potential issues to prevent incident
What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.
Associate's degree or industry certification in an applicable IT field, in addition to four years applicable experience in the design/administration/support of one or more platforms; or Bachelor's degree in an IT field, in addition to two years applicable experience in the design/administration/support of one or more platforms; or five years equivalent in depth experience in the above related areas
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of multiple systems operating/integration/architecture and programming languages/methodologies
Thorough understanding of server and desk top based technology, utilizing network systems related to enterprise view
