Delta Air Lines, Inc. General Manager - Enterprise Services - SOA/API/ODE in Atlanta, Georgia

We are looking for a highly experienced leader to serve as General Manager for the Enterprise Services organization which includes SOA/API, ERMS and ODE technical development and support.

As part of Enterprise Services, the SOA/API teams are responsible for the delivery and support of 24x7x365 mission critical enterprise web services and API's that are used by most Delta applications. The ODE and ERMS teams are responsible for sourcing and persisting data into Enterprise Operational Data Stores and for delivering events to application clients in almost all of Delta's business areas.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Enterprise Architecture and will work in close collaboration with the CTO and infrastructure & application development leaders.

-YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE

  • Lead the four managerial Enterprise Services teams which include: SOA/API Governance; SOA/API Development/Support; ODE Development/Support; and ERMS Development/Support & SOA/API/ODE Operations Support. These teams are located in ATL, MSP and offshore. Currently the organization consist of approximately 170 employees and contractors.

  • Support, influence and communicate the mission, goals, objectives and practices of the department, technology group, and Delta. Demonstrate leadership across multiple projects, peer groups and department in thought, initiative, responsibility, teamwork, actions, and culture.

  • Communicate a compelling view of the organization's purpose and values in a way that -helps others understand the importance and impact of their contributions.

  • Responsible for cost center operating and capital budgets and their contribution to the overall IT budget.

  • Assure support coverage is always ready 24x7x365 and able to respond immediately to any production incidents or anomalies for mission critical SOA/API/ODE systems. Be able to personally respond immediately to any high severity incidents and participate in technical troubleshooting to restore service.

  • Collaborate with various teams across the IT organization on projects and infrastructure changes which may impact SOA/API/ODE systems.

  • Provide leadership direction on next generation ODE and SOA/API application services, working in conjunction with Architecture and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure development practices follow industry and enterprise Delta IT standards.

  • Lead through demonstration of Delta's core values as outlined in Rules of the Road.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? / WHAT EXPERIENCE DO YOU NEED?

  • Bachelor's degree required in related field (i.e. computer science, management information systems, etc.) with 10 or more years of experience in IT project based and production support environment or any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training.

  • Experience should include management (at least 5 years), project management, business systems analysis, application design and development across multiple hardware and software platforms. History of successful delivery of large projects with high complexity/priority/risk.

  • Strong leadership ability with a track record of developing people, inspiring individuals & teams, and achieving strategic objectives

  • Demonstrated strategic vision, anticipating future consequences and trends accurately with broad knowledge and perspective.

  • Ability to communicate vision/strategy and manage multiple teams to follow that direction.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in a rapidly changing technology environment including the inevitable technology transitions.

  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.

  • Demonstrated experience with the 5 Key Delta IT Success Factors including personal accountability, systems thinking, excellent judgment, being proactive and executing with a sense of urgency. Ability to be self-motivated while also motivating teams.

  • Demonstrated experience in prioritizing and managing multiple, parallel work efforts while meeting committed completion dates and meeting or exceeding customer expectations.

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills across various levels in the organization with the ability to maintain composure in critical, high stress situations.

  • Experienced with Agile and Waterfall development delivery concepts, frameworks and approaches

  • Experienced with cloud-based & cloud-native application architectures and technologies, web services, micro-services, API driven architecture & platforms, and messaging/streaming technologies

  • Experience leading technical teams who support mission critical 'always on & always available', distributed, fault-resilient systems

  • Experience with the following: traditional RDBMS such as Oracle, including RAC and Exadata, distributed Cache, In-Memory Database, and TIBCO messaging & middleware products.

  • Functional knowledge of the airline business is a plus.
